Kashmir Grants Programme

The words Zakat and Enterprise are not often used together. We were presented with the problem of families in the developing world becoming reliant on Zakat handouts indefinitely. This is not only unsustainable but also has a detrimental psychological and social impact on the families involved.

With this in mind, TCN in association with its partners Al Mustafa Development Network piloted a Zakat Enterprise project.

The concept:

A needy family, both dependent and eligible for zakat is identified. The family is provided with enough funds to allow them to set up their own small business in order to lift them out of dependancy. Although there can be no compulsion in how the funds are used, incentives such as free business advice and help in setting up their enterprise means that this sensible use of funds is encouraged. Each grant is of the value of £800. This is enough to ensure that the business is of a respectable size and can afford the family a steady income for the future.

You can help expand this project by providing for a Zakat enterprise grant of £800.
